Breed Bans

We believe breed bans don't work. Bans occur because certain breeds are considered aggressive and dangerous. In reality, it is the lack of effective training and not the dog itself that is the problem. We need to place the focus on irresponsible owners and breeders in order to keep our communities safe.

Where breeds are banned, some people will still own banned breeds. If those people can’t take their dogs to see a veterinarian, how will the dogs get their vaccinations? How will these dogs act if they have never been socialized? We run the risk of putting our communities in danger.

Breed specific laws affect every dog owner. Check your municipal code. Most of the time they don't just say Pit-Bulls. They may also include Akitas, Boxers, Bulldogs, Dobermans, and more. Some towns go as far as banning large breed dogs in general.

If we ban certain breeds because of dog fighting, the owners will simply find other breeds to corrupt and destroy. There have even been reports of criminals and losers fighting Dalmatians. Dog fighting is an an illegal, sick and disturbing crime, but losers still fight dogs. Having a breed ban won’t make a community safer.
